The absolute gold standard for Cape Cod charter fishing is the Giant Bluefin Tuna. These monster fish average 750-900 lbs., with many Giant Bluefin in Cape Cod’s waters reaching sizes over 1000 lbs. There is no bigger thrill than battling this giant of the deep. Giant Bluefin are tuna reaching sizes of 73” or greater. If you are lucky enough to undertake this epic battle and land a Giant Bluefin, the catch will belong to the Captain, the standard practice for charter boats in Cape Cod. Captain Aubrey is happy to give you a credit for your current trip, or offer a complimentary future charter fishing trip on the Good 2 Go when you catch a Bluefin over 73”. Giant Bluefin are known to give anglers a great fight, with average battles lasting up to 2 hours or more. These sport fish are not only big and strong, but they are also beautiful, and hauling in one of these big blue giants is an unforgettable experience. We specifically target Bluefin on our tuna fishing charters. We generally cruise out to the deeper waters offshore and troll for giant Bluefin.
Smaller school Bluefin, less than 73”, are also common catches in Cape Cod and can average from 20 lbs. all the way to 250 lbs. These beautiful School Bluefin Tunas are most commonly available from late June through October. Trolling is the most common method for fishing School Bluefin, though short casting at nearby Bluefin is also effective.
Massachusetts State limits on Bluefin Tuna are one fish per boat per trip. Bluefin from 27” to 72” may be retained by the client and are excellent eating. Cut into steaks, Bluefin are great on the grill and freeze well.
